Ultra Tour of Dartmoor

The Dartmoor 100, the ‘Ultra Tour of Dartmoor’ is the first complete circumnavigation of Dartmoor ever to have taken place as an official race event.

The Route encompasses the whole of the northern and southern sections of the Moor, taking in many of the wildest, most remote sections and the highest tors, including 4 of the 5 ‘Dartmoor 600s’.. the 600m tors. The route also skirts the periphery of the Moor to include the more well known landmarks and idyllic moorland villages, following woodland and riverside trails.

The Race is a continuous non-stop event. Competitors must visit the 9 checkpoints, 3 water stations and must also visit 3 self-clip controls to finish the event successfully.

Checkpoints are generally village halls, where you will be well fed, watered and encouraged onwards by our fantastic team of  pureTRAIL crew members.. always enthusiastic and exceptionally knowledgeable. As they are all runners themselves they know the craic..

36 Hours is the maximum time allowed to complete the race. It may seem generous, but don’t be fooled, there is over 5000m of ascent to contend with, over sometimes rocky, tussocky, boggy, typical Dartmoor terrain. The conditions can be harsh at times, even in summer and there will be a night section along the Abbots Way, a tough wild section of remote moorland between Scoriton (start of the Granite 50) and Meavy at the extreme southern end of our route. We expect the first runners to be back in Okehampton in around 20-22 hours, but we think most runners will take 24-30 hours to complete.

The Event itself starts at Midday on Friday 3rd August 2018, from the Okehampton College playing fields, in front of the OCRA Pavilion in the Park.. (Event HQ). Free parking and camping on the Friday and Saturday nights during the event.

The Dartmoor 100 requires competitors to be phsically fit with ultra distance running experience and with the ability to navigate using pre-marked D100 maps, gps, gpx files or a combination of all of these. There will also be a written route description in handbook style given to each competitor.

Competitors will be monitored throughout the event using GPS tracking devices. This is a safety requirement but also allows friends and family to view their progress online throughout the race.

Bespoke Technical t-shirt at registration and bespoke Finisher’s medal on completion of the race. Also bespoke trophies to First, Second and Third male and females plus Age category prizes.
